Rajasthan rewards road trippers more than almost any other Indian state. The classic Golden Triangle of Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur provides a strong foundation — add Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, and Udaipur and you have one of the world’s great road journeys.
The Route
Delhi — Agra (Taj Mahal) — Jaipur — Jodhpur (Blue City) — Jaisalmer (Desert and Sam Dunes) — Udaipur (City of Lakes) — back to Delhi or fly from Udaipur. Allow 10–14 days minimum.
Best Time
October to March is ideal. April-June is extremely hot throughout the state. The monsoon from July-September brings some relief but roads can be disrupted.
Budget
Budget Rs 3,000–5,000 per person per day for comfortable mid-range travel including accommodation, food, entry fees, and transport between cities. Rajasthan has excellent heritage hotels at every price point.
Highlights Not to Miss
Mehrangarh Fort in Jodhpur is one of India’s finest. Jaisalmer’s golden sandstone city is unlike anywhere else in the country. Udaipur’s Lake Palace and City Palace rank among India’s most beautiful royal architecture.
