Varanasi is like no other city on earth. Ancient, overwhelming, and deeply spiritual — it is a place that changes every visitor who spends meaningful time there.

The Ganga Aarti

Rising at dawn for the morning Aarti at Dashashwamedh Ghat as the sun appears over the river is a spiritual experience whether you are religious or not. The evening Aarti is equally unmissable and draws larger crowds with its elaborate lamp ceremony.

Walk the ghats from Assi Ghat to Manikarnika — the cremation ghat — for a full immersion in Varanasi’s life and death. A boat ride on the Ganga at dawn is non-negotiable. Negotiate the price before boarding.

Where to Stay

A ghat-facing guesthouse gives the full Varanasi experience. Expect noise, narrow lanes, and the sounds of devotion at all hours. Godaulia area has the widest range of accommodation options at different price points.

What to Eat

Kashi Chat Bhandar for chaat. Deena Chat Bhandar for kachori. Blue Lassi shop for the most famous lassi in India. Street food is the best way to eat in Varanasi.

How Long to Stay

Give Varanasi at least two full days minimum. It cannot be rushed and reveals more of itself the longer you stay.
