Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) and Shivaay may affect Rock on 2’s 1st day collection

Multi-starrer Rock On 2 is slated to be released on November 11. Although the film has a big star cast, it is less likely that Rock On 2 will witness a massive opening day collection at the box office.

Starring Farhan Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Purab Kohli, Prachi Desai and Shashank Arora among others, Rock On 2 is the only big release on this Friday. However, there is not much hype around the film on social media.

Although Rock On had received much attention, the sequel appears to be lacking the required promotions. Apart from the lack of hype, there are multiple factors that might affect the opening collection of Rock On 2 at the box office.

Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (ADHM) and Shivaay are still battling at the box office  and these two movies are likely to grab footfalls for some more days. Thus, Rock On 2 will witness some competition from the two big budget movies.

On the other side, the government’s latest measure to curb black money circulation may also affect the box office collection of the film, at least on the first day. With ban on usage of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes, people might tend to restrict themselves from spending money on movie tickets. However, the ban will be withdrawn on Thursday and it might not actually affect the film’s business.

Nevertheless, the current buzz around the film does not suggest that Rock On 2 will have a great opening at the Indian box office. Early predictions suggest that the film’s first day collection will be around Rs 5 crore on Friday.

Rock on 2 features newcomers in the movie, Shraddha Kapoor and Shashank Arora. The principal cast from the original film have all returned for the sequel. The only member from the film’s band Magik who did not return for the follow-up was Luky Kenny as his character died in the first film, while Arjun Rampal, Farhan Khan and Purab Kohli all reprised their respective roles making it a rare occurrence in Bollywood. The only other Bollywood sequel to have the three leads return for a sequel was Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2.  After Arjun Rampal won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor at the 56th National Film Awards in 2008 for his role in Rock On!!, he rejected all offers thereafter to play a lead role as a musician.[9]
