The journey of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’ has been full of unprecedented struggles, from violent protests by fringe groups to a long delay in being approved by the Censor Board but the film has managed to win the hearts of the audience and critics. The audiences have liked the performances of the film’s leading actors Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and the captivating visuals of the epic story captured by Bhansali.
According to a recent report on Boxofficeindia.com, the film has collected Rs 6 crore on day 12 at the ticket window. The film has almost collected Rs 50 crore in its second week till now, taking its overall collection to Rs 209 crore. If experts are to be believed then the film may collect up to Rs 65 crore in the second week taking its collection to Rs 225 crore before Akshay Kumar’s ‘PadMan ‘ arrives.
The film revolves around Rani Padmavati, the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh, who is known for her beauty and valour in 13th century India. She captures the fancy of the reigning Sultan of Delhi, the tyrant Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh), who becomes obsessed with her and goes to great lengths to fulfil his greed.
Several Bollywood celebrities have come out praising the film and even took to social media to laud the performances of the actors and to call the film a visual delight because of its impeccable sets and background, which is one of the high points of every Bhansali film.
Meanwhile, Padmaavat will be on the ‘now-showing’ list in Indore. Bhopal multiplexes are likely to follow suit, with the administration assuring cinema owners that high court orders will be followed and they would get security. Cinema owners in Indore set the ball rolling by meeting administrative officials on Monday morning. Collector Nishant Warwade and DIG Harinarayanchari promised security. “The DIG said they cannot provide sufficient police force on Tuesday and Wednesday due to a demolition drive. So, we decided to release the film on Thursday,” said Jai Prakash Choukse, chairman of Central Cine Circuit Association (CCCA).
Bhopal collector Sudam Khade told TOI that the home department has issued a letter to all collectors and SPs to allow and provide security to movie goers to watch ‘Padmaavat’. “The state government had asked us to follow high court orders,” he said.
ASP (zone 1) Dharamveer Yadav told TOI: “We are complying with the court order and ready to tackle any law and order situation. Adequate security arrangements are in place. Earlier, when there was a problem we had arrested the troublemakers.”
